BACKGROUND

Sarah Poten’s fascination with botany, horticulture, and design stems from childhood. She grew up between rural New Jersey, where her mother had a garden design business, and New York City, where her stepmother has been a notable florist for over 35 years. After years of arranging flowers for friends’ weddings and events, Sarah founded Mulberry Florals in 2008 as a passion project while teaching kids about sustainable agriculture for GrowNYC’s Greenmarket.

Following a 15-year nonprofit career, Sarah was drawn back to her city/country roots. She divides her time between gardening at the farm and exploring the woods near Lambertville, NJ, and returning to the city with field and forest treasures for Mulberry’s clients and friends.  Always inspired by the natural world, she is also a landscape photographer.
